What is Leverage?
Leverage is a 501c3 nonprofit who’s mission is to identify and pursue high-leverage opportunities to support responsible scientific advance. We do this by using our knowledge of people and science to conduct: (1) programs that conduct and support research in neglected fields, (2) initiatives that help the public engage constructively with science and technology, and (3) efforts that communicate our findings to scientists, funders, policy makers, and the public.
We have three core programs; History of Science, Exploratory Psychology and Bottlenecks in Science and Technology.
What you’ll find on our Substack
We think of our Substack as: The insider updates
This is where you’ll hear about Leverage’s work before anyone else. You’ll find sneak peeks of articles before they’re released, ideas that are on our minds and internal tools/frameworks that we’ve developed. Some of these will be highly polished while others will be more casual content or ideas in their earliest stages.
Sounds cool?
Our other channels
Leverage has some other communication channels, each with specific purposes. Details and links are below
Newsletter
We think of our newsletter as: The supporter updates
Our newsletter is how you can hear about the institute’s progress over time. We use it to share our new published research and updates about core programs each quarter.. It’s also how we share information about fundraising or significant changes to the way the institute runs.
You can subscribe to that newsletter here.
Discord
We think of our Discord as: The private conversation
This is the home of the Leverage Research Community, a community about how to use knowledge to create a more flourishing world.
Common topics discussed include psychology, sociology, introspection, history of science, the proper role of science in society, bottlenecks in science and technology, metascience, scientific methodology, and more.
We love hidden areas of knowledge, important topics others aren't talking about, and trying to understand how individuals and groups function, but most of all, we love figuring out how the world works and trying to use that knowledge to help make it better.
If you also dig those things, the Discord channel is a space to talk about them and meet others. There are also regular events as well as ad hoc live conversations that will happen.
You can find the Discord here
Twitter
We think of our Twitter as: The public conversation
This is where you can get real time updates on what’s happening at Leverage. We’ll share progress as it happens for each of our research programs (history of science, bottlenecks in science and technology, exploratory psychology). We’ll share information about events we’re running, partnering with or participating in.
It’s also a great way to stay involved with public conversations .
